What is an EcoReef?

What is an EcoReef?
In its simplest form, an EcoReef is a collection of organic material such as twisted branches, as well as rocks and rubble bound together with a long lasting binder. This combination forms a protective ‘cave’ to protect flora and fauna from their inception and on through the juvenile stage until they can fend for themselves.
 Twisted branches and organic material lock together to form a mesh surfaces for living organisms to adhere to
 Rocks weight branches for stability
 Binders ensure that rocks and branches remain locked together long enough for nature to take over
 Each EcoReef locks together with other reefs to form an enclave where biodiversity can thrive

Does water recreation damage waterways?

 Does water recreation damage waterways?
Water recreation can have both positive and negative impacts on waterways.
It does depend on the activities, locations, water connections and conditions in the water.
The benefits of water recreation can enhance health, long-term upkeep and promotion of environmental understanding and knowledge.
It may add unwanted contaminants into the water.
It also may disturb and change the natural balance of ecosystems & habitats.
Also, it may add general rubbish and pollution.

Can we fix our drought of water?

Can we fix our drought of water?
Yes is the answer but it is hard and confusing.
Some options are:
Desalination
Rainwater harvesting
Drip irrigation
Improving land conditions
Rebuilding environments
Water conservation
Planting more plants in natural areas
Water management planning
Recycling water and grey water
Planting water conserving plants

 Here’s a super-efficient ‘Mangrove Slicer’ at work
demolishing next year’s fish catch in a river right next to you.

But it doesn’t need to be this way.

·
We CAN turn the river back the way it was

·
We CAN clean her waters

·
We CAN save our precious fish stocks

·
We CAN avoid a devastating food shortage

·
We CAN do it now AT LITTLE OR NO COST, and

·
We CAN do it NOW by protecting Mangroves so they
can regenerate over many years

The EcoReef Project

Together we CAN.

Does every day human life hurt our waterways?

Does everyday human life hurt our waterways?
No, it does not if we are just using them for basic natural recreation like swimming, snorkeling, picnics in parks near water or anything like that.
But it does hurt if we pollute or damage or use specific gear that can damage the waterways by hurting it for example destroying or stirring up water beds or anything that hurts the environment.
But
We can find a way so both parties can get the best out of using our waterways and it just takes some respect, thought, and care and we can use the environment and it can sustain for further periods of time. We just have to care and think about what exactly we are doing.

Can we improve our waterways manually?

Can we improve our waterways manually?

The answer is Yes & it is not that complicated as we already do it in some areas already.

We already do it in these areas of the environment:

  • We clean up pollution
  • Breed new fish to go back into nature
  • We sometimes even rebuild waterway base structures
  • Improving our climate
  • Growing and controlling plants in areas
  • Revegetation
  • Reshaping of waterways
There is so much we can already do and are already doing. We have to continue and do more.

Do insects thrive if waterways are healthier?

Do insects thrive if waterways are healthier?

Not all insects benefit from healthier waterways but environments get better which allows environments to stabilise and become healthier but it may not change a specific insect’s habitat directly. It will give them a better change long term if the environment in general is healthier and that includes waterways. On some occasions, too much water may hurt or destroy an insect’s habitat and may hurt the insect population.

Sometimes near waterways there is a wider community of different species of animals, insects and environments and if the waterway is healthy they normally become healthier more thriving communities.
